Congregation Shearith Israel was the first synagogue in the nation to open a homeless shelter, and it has continued to be a part of our shul for more than 30 years. From November to March, we provide warm beds, hot meals and MARTA transportation to 14 women in transition.
To help these women move from living on the street to residing in permanent housing and having steady jobs. To accomplish this mission, we rely on more than 400 volunteers who prepare kosher meals, spend the night at the shelter, and provide a variety of services to shelter residents.
The shelter season began Nov. 15. To sign up to volunteer at the shelter or for information on how you can donate please visit www.sishelter.org.
